Free invoice template for pressure washing

You've just turned a grey driveway white again. Billing it shouldn't be the hard part of the day. Here's the structure of a proper wash-job invoice, minus the faff.

Bill by surface, not by blur

A wash job is a list of surfaces, so invoice it that way. One line per surface means the customer sees exactly what got done, and when they flick the invoice to a neighbour - which happens a lot in this game - it doubles as your services menu. The usual lines:

About that callout line: plenty of washers include one to cover travel and setup, and that's fine, with one rule. It goes on the quote first, so the customer sees it before they say yes. A callout that first appears on the invoice reads like a sting.

"Invoice" or "Tax invoice"?

Depends on one thing: GST registration. Under $75k turnover and not registered, the document is headed "Invoice" and shows no GST line at all. The checklist

• Your business name and ABN
• The right heading - "Invoice", or "Tax invoice" only if GST-registered
• Invoice number and issue date
• Customer's name (required over $1,000, smart on every job)
• Job address and the surfaces cleaned, one line each
• GST shown if registered, absent if not
• Total, due date, and a way to pay on the spot

One extra habit worth stealing: attach your before-and-after photos to the invoice. You're taking them for the socials anyway, and on the invoice they're proof of the finished job if anyone ever quibbles.

Send it while the driveway's still drying

Wash jobs are one-visit work, so the invoice should leave when you do. Send it from the ute before you pull out and it lands while the customer's still admiring the concrete. Wait until the weekend and you're in chasing territory for no reason. Keep a copy for 5 years.
